Recently launched alongside the HTC Desire HD, the HTC Desire Z sees the combination of a touchscreen and slide-out physical QWERTY keyboard. An ideal option for those who prefer the use of a physical keyboard over that of a touchscreen but who don’t want to compromise on features, the HTC Desire Z has something for everyone.
Measuring 119x 60.4x 14.2 mm, it is impressively slimline for a handset with a separate keyboard unit, and surprisingly lightweight at 180 g. The handset utilises a 3.7 inch S-LCD capacitive touchscreen, which has a pixel configuration of 480x 800 and can display up to 16M colours, resulting in superb rendering of on screen imagery and videos. Additional connectivity features include Bluetooth and micro USB, which allows the handset to be connected to compatible devices both wirelessly and directly respectively.
There is a built in 5 megapixel camera mounted on the back of the handset, which does a great job of taking high quality still images thanks to its pixel resolution of 2592x 1944. Autofocus and face detection are included along with an LED flash and geo-tagging. The latter functions thanks to GPS and automatically tags the location at which a photo was taken.
The combination of an 800 MHz processor and the new Android 2.2 (Froyo) OS gives a perfect platform for customisation and expansion, with access to the Android Market offering thousands of apps in many different categories which can be downloaded, either for a fee or free of charge depending on the app.
