Sony Ericsson is soon to release a new addition to the successful XPERIA range. The range of smartphones includes the X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro. The XPERIA X8 offers a new aspect to the collection in the shape of a functional new handset with a number of appealing features.

Measuring 99x 54x 15 mm, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 is a relatively compact handset, which is also light weight at 104 g. This makes it highly portable and will easily fit into a pocket or handbag. The 3 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen utilises a pixel configuration of 320x 480 in order to display up to 16M vivid, providing great quality image display. This makes it great for viewing photos and videos, especially in conjunction with an accelerometer sensor which automatically rotates the contents of the screen allowing portrait and landscape to be viewed.

Both vibration and ringing are used to alert users to incoming calls and messages, with the added bonus of being able to assign MP3 music files as ringtones. Handsfree communication is carried out thanks to an easy to use speakerphone system along with a 3.5 mm headset jack.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 comes with 128 MB of internal memory as standard, however there is also a micro SD card slot which comes with a pre-installed 2 GB memory card. Should further storage be required, this can be replaced with a memory card of up to 16 GB. This allows plenty of storage for files and data such as music tracks, video clips and documents.

In order to connect and to cellular networks, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 utilises if both EDGE & GPRS in class 10 versions. Access to the Internet is provided via an HSDPA connection in areas with 3G coverage. When local Wireless Networks are available, a faster Internet connection can be attained thanks to full Wi-Fi connectivity. The package of connectivity features is finished off with both Bluetooth and micro USB connections.

A 3.15 mega pixel digital camera is included which operates at a pixel resolution of 2048x 1936 pixels. Thanks to GPS with A-GPS support, the resulting images can be automatically geo-tagged. The camera can also shoot video in VGA quality at a rate of 30 frames per second.

The operating system of choice is Android 1.6 (Donut), had which works well in conjunction with a 600 MHZ processor to provide a superb user experience. The handset will be available in several different colour schemes adding further appeal to style conscious users who also view their phone as a fashion statement.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 is an ideal Smartphone for those in the budget, it still provides the practicality and versatility of the Android OS, along with a wealth of entertainment and social networking features.
